How much is car insurance in Las Vegas and Nevada? Here are the two official numbers, what each one measures, how far Las Vegas sample premiums spread across insurers and cities, and why your own price won't match any average.

The Short Version

Car insurance cost in Las Vegas and Nevada, in 60 seconds

Car insurance in Nevada cost an average of $1,703.58 per insured vehicle for 2024 by NAIC's average-expenditure measure, 7th highest in the nation, against $1,431.63 countrywide. Average expenditure is all liability, collision and comprehensive premium written, divided by insured car-years. For Las Vegas, the Nevada Division of Insurance's 2026 guide shows its sample 17-year-old driver (ZIP 89121) at $2,032 to $14,896 across insurers with minimum limits, and $3,192 to $19,320 with higher limits: sample profiles, not quotes.

  • The statewide benchmark: $1,703.58 a year per insured vehicle (2024 data), about 19% above the national figure.
  • The Las Vegas spread: for one sample teen, the highest premium in the state guide is about 7.3 times the lowest.
  • The valley isn't uniform: North Las Vegas shows the highest teen range of nine cities; Henderson the lowest valley range.
  • Where Nevada's cost sits: liability premiums ranked 3rd in the nation, comprehensive 50th.

What to do: treat both numbers as context, then have our Las Vegas team price your drivers, car and limits for a real figure.

You searched "how much is car insurance in Las Vegas" and got five numbers that don't agree. They measure different things. In our experience helping Las Vegas drivers since 2016, it pays to know what a number is before you hold your quote up against it. Here are the two official sources.

What Is the Average Cost of Car Insurance in Nevada, and What Does It Measure?

The short answer: NAIC's 2024 data puts Nevada's average car insurance expenditure at $1,703.58 per insured vehicle for the year, 7th highest of 51 jurisdictions, against $1,431.63 countrywide.

$1,703.58
Nevada's average auto insurance expenditure per insured vehicle, 2024 data, 7th highest of 51 jurisdictions. Countrywide: $1,431.63. A statewide average of what was bought, not a quote.

Average expenditure is NAIC's measure of what drivers actually spent: "the total written premium for liability, collision, and comprehensive coverages" divided by "the liability written car-years." A written car-year is "equal to 365 days of insurance coverage for a single vehicle," so the figure is annual.

What NAIC measures, and what it doesn't

What it blends: liability-only and full-coverage policies. Many drivers carry only liability, which pulls the average below a typical full-coverage price.

What it isn't: a Las Vegas figure, a price for any driver, or current pricing. NAIC's October 1, 2026 release describes 2024.

NAIC's combined average premium, for vehicles carrying all three coverages, was $1,865.83 for Nevada in 2024 (8th), against $1,612.81 countrywide. Nevada's average expenditure has climbed every year since 2020:

Data yearNevada average expenditureCountrywide
2020$1,245.43$1,047.75
2021$1,248.34$1,060.83
2022$1,291.11$1,124.61
2023$1,462.21$1,281.61
2024$1,703.58$1,431.63

NAIC 2024 Average Premium Supplement, average expenditure per insured vehicle by data year (2023 as revised in the 2024 supplement).

By our arithmetic, Nevada's 2024 figure is $271.95 (about 19%) above the national one and rose about 16.5% from 2023 (countrywide: about 11.7%).

How Much Is Car Insurance in Las Vegas According to the State's 2026 Guide?

The short answer: The Nevada Division of Insurance's 2026 rate guide shows its sample Las Vegas teen driver (ZIP 89121, 2025 Corolla) at $2,032 to $14,896 across insurers with minimum limits, and $3,192 to $19,320 with 100/300 limits.

The state's Consumer's Guide to Auto Insurance Rates is the only official source that prices Las Vegas. It puts made-up sample drivers in two cars and nine Nevada ZIP codes and lists what insurers would charge. Las Vegas has one column: ZIP 89121.

How the state guide works

Sample drivers: Examples A through R, from a 17-year-old student to a 78-year-old retiree.

Cars and coverage: a 2025 Corolla LE and a 2023 Ram 1500, each at Option 1 (25/50/20, $1,000 medical payments, 25/50 uninsured motorist) and Option 2 (100/300, $50,000 property damage, $5,000 medical payments, 100/300 uninsured motorist), both with $250 comprehensive and $500 collision deductibles.

The ranges: lowest and highest premium among the insurers listed. No premium period is stated, so they aren't yearly or monthly prices, and they aren't quotes.

Example A is a 17-year-old male with a clean record and an "A" average, rated on his father's policy. In ZIP 89121, his highest Option 1 premium is about 7.3 times the lowest ($14,896 ÷ $2,032, our arithmetic).

Same driver, car, ZIP and coverage: the spread is between insurers, which we never name. The Division counts 120 insurers writing personal auto in Nevada.

For a working adult the spread narrows: Example D's Las Vegas high is about 3.1 times its low.

How Does Car Insurance in Las Vegas Compare With Henderson, North Las Vegas and Reno?

The short answer: In the state's 2026 guide, the Las Vegas teen sample starts at $2,032 with minimum limits, above Henderson's $1,433 and Reno's $999 and just below North Las Vegas at $2,098, which also shows the highest ceiling of nine cities.

These are premiums shown in the state guide for Example A, the 17-year-old in a 2025 Corolla, lowest to highest insurer in each city's one sample ZIP:

City (sample ZIP)Option 1: 25/50/20 minimumOption 2: 100/300/50
Las Vegas (89121)$2,032–$14,896$3,192–$19,320
North Las Vegas (89030)$2,098–$17,231$3,213–$22,498
Henderson (89015)$1,433–$8,787$2,406–$11,806
Pahrump (89048)$1,297–$10,190$1,926–$13,766
Reno (89510)$999–$6,866up to $8,294*
Carson City (89701)$914–$6,837$1,356–$8,124
Stateline (89449)$928–$7,040$1,356–$8,590
Elko (89801)$988–$6,224up to $7,351*
Fallon (89406)$912–$5,668$1,393–$6,690

Premiums shown in the state guide: NV DOI 2026 auto rate guide, Example A, 2025 Corolla LE; no period stated. *Reno and Elko Option 2 lows omitted pending a re-check.

By our arithmetic, the Las Vegas floor is about double Reno's. North Las Vegas tops both ends of both options. For an adult the valley pattern holds:

Example D, 2025 CorollaOption 1Option 2
Las Vegas (89121)$1,603–$4,964$1,926–$6,913
North Las Vegas (89030)$1,616–$5,946$1,940–$7,896
Henderson (89015)$1,332–$4,016$1,739–$5,013

Premiums shown in the state guide: NV DOI 2026 auto rate guide, Example D (30-year-old, clean record, no insurance in the past 30 days).

Each city gets one ZIP, so a row is a sample, not a citywide price. See our guides to car insurance in Henderson and North Las Vegas.

How Much Do Age, a Speeding Ticket or an At-Fault Accident Change Las Vegas Prices?

The short answer: In the state's Las Vegas samples, a speeding ticket lifts the teen's minimum-limits low from $2,032 to $2,605, and the 23-year-old with an at-fault accident is shown at $2,323 to $7,158, against $1,603 to $4,964 for a clean 30-year-old.

Read these as four different drivers, not a controlled test. All are in ZIP 89121 in a 2025 Corolla:

State sample driverOption 1Option 2Range profile
A: 17, clean record, "A" student$2,032–$14,896$3,192–$19,320Widest
B: same teen, "C" average, one ticket 20 mph over$2,605–$15,123$4,095–$19,610Highest floor
C: 23, one at-fault accident under $1,000$2,323–$7,158$2,459–$10,592Mid
D: 30, clean, no insurance in past 30 days$1,603–$4,964$1,926–$6,913Lowest of the four

Premiums shown in the state guide: NV DOI 2026 auto rate guide, Las Vegas 89121. Badges are our grouping of these four rows.

What the rows suggest, by our arithmetic:

  • A ticket on a teen: B's Option 1 low is $573 above A's ($903 under Option 2).
  • Age and record: Example D starts $429 below the clean teen, with a ceiling about a third of his.

Example D's 30-day gap didn't stop her having the lowest floor here: in the state's samples, age and record outweigh a short gap. We don't quote profiles whose cells we haven't verified, such as the second-DUI driver.

Which Part of Car Insurance Costs Nevada Drivers the Most?

The short answer: Liability does: NAIC's 2024 data ranks Nevada's average liability premium 3rd highest in the nation at $1,195.77, while its average comprehensive premium ranks 50th at $169.86.

NAIC splits the average premium by coverage: each coverage's written premium divided by its insured car-years.

Coverage (2024 data)NevadaNevada rank of 51Countrywide
Liability$1,195.773rd$813.27
Collision$500.2016th$516.39
Comprehensive$169.8650th$283.15

NAIC 2024 Average Premium Supplement, average premium by coverage.

Our reading: Nevada's high overall figure comes from liability, the part that pays for injuries and damage you cause others, not from repairing your own car. Collision sits just under the national average; comprehensive is second lowest. NAIC doesn't say why. Our article on why car insurance costs more in Las Vegas walks through the local factors.

Cutting liability limits trims the coverage doing the heavy lifting. See Nevada's 25/50/20 minimum and uninsured motorist coverage.

What Factors Does Nevada Say Set Your Car Insurance Premium?

The short answer: The Nevada Division of Insurance says insurers rate your driving record, age and gender, territory, vehicle, mileage, deductibles, prior insurance, marital status and, for some insurers, a credit-based insurance score.

Rating, in the Division's words, "is the determination of premium based on several risk characteristics." Six of them, quoted from its 2026 guide:

🚦

Driving record

"Drivers with previous violations or 'at-fault' accidents are a higher risk and are charged a higher rate."

📍

Territory

"The claims experience in your geographical area also will affect your rates."

🎂

Age and gender

"Insurers also have statistics that show a higher number of claims for some age groups than for others."

🚙

Your vehicle

"The type of car you drive directly affects the cost of comprehensive and collision coverage."

🛣️

Miles driven

"The fewer miles you drive the less chance you have of getting into an accident."

💲

Deductibles

"A higher premium is charged for a lower deductible."

The guide adds that "generally, married people pay a lower premium than unmarried policyholders," and that credit-based insurance scores are "used by some insurance companies." It also lists prior insurance, vehicle use, multiple cars and multipolicy discounts.

Insurers weigh each factor differently, which is how one sample teen ranges from $2,032 to $14,896. For the safe ways to work them, see paying less in Las Vegas without getting underinsured and affordable car insurance across Nevada.

Why Do Car Insurance Cost Figures for Nevada Disagree?

The short answer: Nevada car insurance figures disagree because each measures something different: NAIC averages what drivers bought statewide in 2024, while the state guide prices made-up drivers across insurers with no stated period.

Ask what a number measures, for whom and when:

FigureWhat it measuresPeriod

Our summary of NAIC and NV DOI definitions.

Even NAIC revises itself: the 2024 supplement restates Nevada's 2023 figure as $1,462.21, a few cents off the earlier report. So we date every figure.

Be wary of a bare "average"

A Las Vegas price with no source, sample driver, limits or year can't be checked. Ask whom it describes.

Why Won't Your Las Vegas Car Insurance Quote Match Any Average?

The short answer: Your Las Vegas quote won't match an average because insurers price your own drivers, record, car, ZIP, limits and deductibles, and the state's guide shows that even identical sample drivers get very different premiums.

An average blends teens and retirees, liability-only and full coverage. A sample range covers one made-up driver. Two households reading the state's ranges:

Illustrative scenario: two Las Vegas households, same car

Hypothetical households matched to the guide's closest sample profiles. Figures are the guide's real ranges for ZIP 89121 and a 2025 Corolla; none is a quote.

Household 1: a 30-year-old in ZIP 89121, clean record, a few weeks without coverage after a move (closest: Example D).
Minimum limits: $1,603–$4,964 · 100/300 limits: $1,926–$6,913
Household 2: a 23-year-old student in the same ZIP, one small at-fault accident last year (closest: Example C).
Minimum limits: $2,323–$7,158 · 100/300 limits: $2,459–$10,592
Difference at the low end: $720 (minimum) and $533 (100/300); at the high end: $2,194 and $3,679
Same car, same ZIP: the at-fault profile's whole range sits higher, and its ceiling rises faster with higher limits

The two sample profiles also differ in age, school status and mileage, so the gap isn't the accident alone. Differences are our arithmetic.

Agent tip

Match the period, drivers, limits and deductibles before you judge a quote. A six-month premium next to an annual average looks like a bargain that isn't.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the premiums in Nevada's auto rate guide for six months or a full year?

The guide doesn't say. The Nevada Division of Insurance's 2026 Consumer's Guide to Auto Insurance Rates lists a lowest and highest premium for each sample driver, car, city and coverage option, but states no policy period, so we call them premiums shown in the state guide, not yearly or monthly prices. NAIC is different: it defines a written car-year as 365 days of coverage for one vehicle, so its Nevada average expenditure of $1,703.58 for 2024 is annual. Check whether a real quote covers six or twelve months before you hold it up against either.

Does NAIC's Nevada car insurance figure include full coverage?

Partly. NAIC's average expenditure adds all liability, collision and comprehensive premium written in Nevada and divides it by insured car-years for liability, which every registered car must carry. Because many drivers buy liability only, the $1,703.58 figure for 2024 blends liability-only and full-coverage policies. NAIC's combined average premium, for vehicles carrying all three coverages, was higher: $1,865.83 for Nevada, 8th in the nation, against $1,612.81 countrywide. Neither is a price for your car; both are statewide averages of what drivers bought in 2024.

How much higher is the state guide's Las Vegas range for a driver with an at-fault accident?

In the Nevada Division of Insurance's 2026 guide, the sample 23-year-old Las Vegas driver with one at-fault accident (ZIP 89121, 2025 Corolla) is shown at $2,323 to $7,158 with minimum limits. The sample 30-year-old with a clean record but a 30-day coverage gap is shown at $1,603 to $4,964. By our arithmetic, the accident profile's low is about $720 higher and its high about $2,194 higher. The profiles also differ in age, schooling and mileage, so the accident isn't the only difference. These are sample profiles, not quotes.

How much more do 100/300 liability limits cost than Nevada's minimum in the state guide?

For the guide's sample 30-year-old Las Vegas driver, the lowest premium rises from $1,603 under Option 1 (Nevada's 25/50/20 minimum with $1,000 medical payments and 25/50 uninsured motorist) to $1,926 under Option 2 (100/300 bodily injury, $50,000 property damage, $5,000 medical payments and 100/300 uninsured motorist). That's $323 more at the low end, our arithmetic on the Nevada Division of Insurance's 2026 tables. Both options carry the same deductibles; the difference buys four times the per-person injury limit and $30,000 more property damage coverage.

Does a gap in car insurance coverage raise prices in Las Vegas?

It can. The Nevada Division of Insurance lists prior insurance among the factors insurers use, and its 2026 guide prices a sample 30-year-old Las Vegas driver who had no insurance in the past 30 days at $1,603 to $4,964 with minimum limits. The guide doesn't show the same driver without the gap, so it can't price the gap itself. A lapse also brings Nevada DMV reinstatement fees starting at $250 for a first offense of 1 to 30 days. Keeping liability in force without a break avoids both.

The Bottom Line on Car Insurance Costs in Las Vegas and Nevada

The short answer: NAIC puts Nevada's 2024 average car insurance expenditure at $1,703.58 per vehicle, and the state's 2026 guide shows Las Vegas sample premiums spreading several-fold across insurers, so your own quote is the only number that fits you.

NAIC tells you Nevada ranks 7th, mostly on liability costs. The Division of Insurance shows how far one Las Vegas driver's premium swings between insurers and cities. Neither is your price. For the local picture, see our guide to car insurance in Las Vegas, call (702) 726-3110 or start below.
